Mobile Health App Competition

1. Eligibility Criteria

The guidelines and eligibility criteria ensure a fair and competitive environment while encouraging students to leverage their skills and creativity in improving health outcomes through mobile technology.

a. Participant Status:

  • Participants must be enrolled as students in a educational institution at the time of registration.
  • Both undergraduate and graduate students from various disciplines are eligible to participate.

b. Team Composition:

  • Teams may consist of 3 members.
  • Interdisciplinary teams combining students with diverse skills (e.g., programming, design, healthcare) are encouraged.

c. Development Platform:

  • Mobile applications must be developed for either iOS, Android, or cross-platform environments.
  • Teams have the flexibility to choose the development tools and programming languages of their preference.

d. Usability and Impact:

  • Emphasize user-centric design and usability in the app development process.
  • Clearly demonstrate how the mobile app addresses a specific health challenge and its potential impact on users.

2. Registration

  • Teams must register for the competition by the 31st October 2024. A 100 USD registration fee per team should be paid upon registration.
  • Provide team members’ names, contact information, organization/university, and a brief proposal of the proposed mobile health app.

3. Idea Submission

  • Teams must submit a comprehensive proposal outlining their mobile health app concept, including its purpose, features, and intended impact on or before the 31st October 2024. Only three teams will be shortlisted for the final round.
  • Clearly articulate how the app addresses health outcomes, tracks metrics, or facilitates communication between patients and doctors.
  • Teams are required to submit a functional prototype or demo video showcasing the key features of their mobile health app with the proposal.
  • The prototype should highlight the app’s usability, functionality, and its potential impact on health outcomes.

4. Judging Criteria

  • Submissions will be evaluated based on creativity, innovation, usability, potential impact, and the feasibility of implementation.
  • Evaluation Criteria:
    • Creativity and Innovation (20%)
    • Usability (20%)
    • Functionality (20%)
    • Potential Impact (20%)
    • Feasibility of Implementation (10%)
    • Scalability and Sustainability (10%)
  • Judges may also consider the scalability and sustainability of the proposed mobile health app.

5. Presentation

  • Selected three (3) teams will have the opportunity to present their mobile health app to a panel of judges at the main event.
  • Presentations should cover the app’s features, design rationale, technical aspects, and the envisioned impact.

6. Prizes

  • Cash prizes include recognition, certificates, and potential exposure to industry professionals.
  • First three places will be selected from each competition and the prizes will be arranged as below:
    • 1st Place: 200 USD
    • 2nd Place: 150 USD
    • 3rd Place: 100 USD

7. Code of Conduct

  • Participants must adhere to ethical guidelines and respect intellectual property rights throughout the competition.
  • Plagiarism or unauthorized use of existing solutions will result in disqualification.
